What is an electronic cigarette? An electronic cigarette, also known as an electric cigarette is a device that allows you to smoke in an entirely new way.

In 2003, a Chinese pharmaceutical worker named Hon Lik developed the first practical electronic cigarette. Based on an idea conceptualized almost forty years earlier, the electronic cigarette is a great alternative for smokers who wish to pursue a safer vice. To use an electronic cigarette, the user simply inhales through the mouthpiece and an internal sensor automatically triggers the atomizer, which warms enough to vaporize a solution contained in a small capsule within the mouthpiece. A Lighter is not required, since nothing needs to be burned to use an electronic cigarette.

While it is true that some varieties of the electronic cigarette look just like a cigarette, most tend to resemble a pen. Electronic cigarettes are generally reusable with replaceable cartridges, but disposable ones are also available. An electronic cigarette still has some nicotine with the vapourized solution, but none of the other harmful ingredients found in regular cigarettes. The known carcinogens in regular tobacco such as tar, formaldehyde, isoprene, lead, vinyl chloride, and approximately seventy other types of known cancer causing agents are NOT found in an electronic cigarette.

What does an electronic cigarette look like? Electronic cigarette usually look like elongated tubes. While some are designed to look like real smoking products others are designed to resemble pens. Each manufacturer has different colours of electronic cigarettes available. If you have decided to try an electronic cigarette, search for more dealers before you decide which one will fit best for your style. The pen-like style of electronic cigarette offers another advantage; it is perfect if you want to disguise your ‘activity’ at the office.

There are electronic cigarettes available in different flavours. Surprisingly, some surveys show that the most requested electronic cigarette flavors are those of menthol and strawberry. Flavors may vary from one producer to another but the most common ones are traditional tobacco, menthol, chocolate, cherry, apple and strawberry. They also come in different quantities.

It is generally recommended to carry at least two batteries with your electronic cigarette. One to use and another one that is charged and ready to go. Electronic cigarette batteries usually last an average of 200 puffs before needing to be recharged. The battery tip will flash when it is time to charge. If you continue to draw on the electronic cigarette after the tip has started flashing, it will eventually stop lighting up altogether which means that the battery is out of charge.
